It is both a team sport and an individual sport -vaulters come in every size from tiny tot to seniors! It is an outstanding way of boosting your confidence and balance especially if you are a rider.
Vaulting is the sport of gymnastics and dance in harmony with a moving horse. It’s a great way to develop coordination, balance, strength and creativity while also learning great horsemanship skills. “Safety first” provides the guideline for vaulting.
Vaulters are taught to condition their bodies with stretching and strengthening exercises prior to vaulting. Most movements performed on the horse are first learned and practiced on “Woody” our wooden stationary horse. We then move on to a real horse on a lunge line controlled by a trainer from the ground. These practices help to make vaulting the safest equine sport, and safer than other activities such as playing on playground equipment or soccer.
Vaulting was brought to the United States from Germany in the late 1960s (it is considered a pre-requisite for serious riders in Germany) and has become a popular North American sport.
Rolling Hills are now pleased to offer a vaulting program under the instruction of German born and taught, Corinna Szymoniak. Corinna is a certified vaulting instructor and brings her experienced vaulting pony “Freya “ to our program. Corinna will also be training some of our own Rolling Hills mounts to enable expansion of our program.
